NTU Annual Teaching and Learning Conference 2026: 16.06.26

This year, I presented at the ATLC conference with Stuart Burch who is Principal Lecturer and Academic Head of NTU Programmes at the Faculty of International Media (ICUC), the Sino-UK joint institute of Communication University of China and NTU.
The title of our session was ‘How to use drawing to promote diversity and engagement in teaching and learning’ with a focus on ‘drawing to learn’ rather than ‘learning to draw’. 30 members of staff attended from a wide variety of disciplines and roles within the university. We asked the staff to draw their initial thoughts to the word ‘museum’ for the warm-up and then to the word ‘Culture’. Culture was interpreted widely with some staff drawing the world, flags and food and other members of staff drawing music, dance and the arts. This led to a very lively discussion on what culture means to us, illustrating the power of drawing to learn!
