SPAB Workshop 2026: 11.06.2026

SPAB Workshop 2026: 11.06.2026

This year’s SPAB (Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings) workshop focused on People’s Hall in Nottingham which is Grade II* listed building and has recently been awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to make the building useable again as it’s currently dilapidated. It was briefly used by the Nottingham School of Design – where NTU’s Design School began! It is made up of an 18thcentury Georgian town house and a 19th century public hall.

Twenty NTU students took part in the workshop with the SPAB scholars and experienced a measured survey plus lime mortar plastering, as well as fixing a sash window. They also brainstormed ideas for the building using collaborative collage –  common themes was creating a ground floor public café, a library, community centre, study spaces and a heritage centre!
